The Situation in the bay of Napoli

As a forward-thinking city, it becomes compelling to delve into four fundamental aspects that construct the fabric of a society:

  • Economy

  • Politics

  • The societal structure

  • Environment

Economy

The city of Napoli is undoubtedly dependent on its country, Italy. However, despite not being the capital, Napoli has positioned itself as an influential and emerging city for decades!

Based on the exploitation of minerals and "rare earths," as well as its underwater fauna, Napoli boasts valuable resources that captivate the global market and its process of globalization. Being a coastal city, its commerce is highly developed. Furthermore, thanks to the company Mente Scope owned by Federico, Napoli possesses numerous Hemantic portals, teleporters scattered throughout Italy, with plans to expand across Europe.

Consequently, the transportation of raw materials, various resources, or coveted objects is easily achievable and exportable worldwide. In short, Napoli has transformed itself akin to what Singapore accomplished before being constrained by rising sea levels and climate change.

Politics

As seen in the chronology of Napoli, the city went through various stages and transitions before reaching its current state. It transitioned from a generation of conservative politicians prioritizing the safety of the city and the country, even at the expense of their economic strength, to a city built on pronounced capitalism and an insatiable desire for progress.

Presently, Napoli is led by an ultra-progressive mayor who doesn't hesitate to showcase, utilizing various state aids, today's and tomorrow's innovators and scientists, such as Federico, with whom he has signed a contract for the Hemantic system. In the current era, contracts and business dealings thrive, and the principles of equality and fairness for which the proletarians fought during the revolt of 2054 have gone up in smoke.

Only progress, success, and profit matter!

But what does society think about all of this?

Society

Power, wealth, and progress, all end up benefiting some and harming others... Such is the cruel reality of NoTemp'o. While innovators and influential figures revel in their leisurely lives, the descendants of proletarians and mine workers struggle to make ends meet in this "madness" of technologies and inventions.

This struggle is not just mental, as everything moves too fast all the time, but also economic. Inflation has hit the entire country hard, particularly Napoli. Similar to Paris, salaries are adjusted accordingly to prevent citizens of Napoli from being forced to relocate.

Society can be divided into three categories:

  1. Proletarians and primary workers who find it challenging to cope in this ultra-progressive city, despite being the ones ultimately keeping the city and the country running. However, as the innovators frequently remind them, "they should be grateful they haven't been replaced by machines yet." They should appreciate having a job and a salary.

  2. The middle class, like Sofia, residing in the less popular and more peripheral neighborhoods, bearing the full brunt of the industrial emissions from factories and mineral mines. The upper middle class attempts to mingle with the innovators and influencers of the city, sometimes challenging to distinguish!

  3. The bourgeoisie, the innovators, and scientists. Ultimately, those who have shaped the image of this city. They are powerful, passionate, and captivate others with their whimsical ideas. It's another category that sometimes struggles to stay grounded.

Despite their differences, they all share a common concern... the environment!

Environment

In a more concrete sense, both in Napoli and worldwide, the environment has undergone significant transformations. It is not just deteriorating but evolving, and consequently, so are humans. The temperatures are soaring, global sea levels have risen, leading to an unprecedented global exodus (hence the Housing Code in effect in Napoli) that has sparked numerous conflicts between peoples and communities.

Moreover, traditional seasons have ceased to exist; it is the same weather and season throughout the year, with minor variations by month and, of course, across different countries. In Italy, the season that comes closest would resemble the early days of summer. It's hot, and the lands are dry.

Occasionally, prolonged storms arrive, offering a refreshing respite across the country. Italy, including Napoli, remains relatively pleasant, compared to Middle Eastern countries experiencing extreme temperatures, compelling communities to dwell in underground cities.

As a result, humans must evolve and adapt, cultivating differently, altering dietary habits, and fundamentally living differently. They must now confront unresolved threats, such as diseases emerging from melting glaciers. Yet, this is also why innovators are present and active, inspiring dreams. In reality, however, only a few are genuinely committed to helping the world and restoring this ailing globe.

Well, that is if time doesn't intervene too much...
