Imani Mirano - The Faithful Officer

Background

Imani Mirano is the chief security officer, responsible for the districts of Mare Solar and Via Veneto in Napoli. She was born in an unknown location, supposedly, in July 2071.

Imani was the older sister of a family of 7 children. She lived in a foster home and always took care of her younger brothers and sisters. She didn't have time to finish her homework before she had to go pick up the rest of the siblings.

At the age of 12, she was already replacing her parents to cook, set the table, in short, be at the service of the house. But she never questioned it; she loved helping and feeling useful. She wanted to feel indispensable and always protect her younger brothers and sisters. Whenever one of them was harassed or victimized by the older ones, she didn't hesitate to step in, even if it meant putting herself in danger.

It was often that she came home from school covered in bruises, without even a thank you from her younger siblings. She didn't expect anything; it didn't even cross her mind. It was instinctive for her!

Her only moments of calm were in the evening after helping the younger ones brush their teeth when she finally found herself alone in the bathroom. The parents were never around much and fully trusted Imani, so she had to ensure and assume the responsibilities. People were counting on her! And it's facing the mirror, when all the lights are off and the eyes are closed, that she can finally breathe and release 2 or 3 well-deserved tears.

It's not easy for a child to replace parents, but it was probably her destiny. Imani believed in something bigger and better than humans. At the age of 14, she began to pray and find solace in her vows. She was grateful to be alive; she didn't know where she came from, and it didn't matter to her, as long as she could live.

Upheaval

The moment of great change had to come. Imani had always warned her foster parents that at the age of 18, she would leave their home to travel around Italy and study management. It's what she had always done with her younger brothers and sisters since she was born, so yes, management interested her and didn't require a loan to attend such studies (at least not in public universities).

In 2092, as she was about to finish her Management studies at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, she attended a somewhat eventful student party.

Drinks were flowing, and students were getting quite drunk. Imani was not that type and preferred to take photos and enjoy the moment without ingesting any substances.

Suddenly, an argument erupted, a settling of scores right in the streets of Milan. A man pulled out a knife from his pocket and began waving it in the direction of one of Imani's friends. Everyone jostled, others stumbled in fear, and everyone tried to move away from the armed man. Face to face with the attacker, Imani threw herself on him to disarm and calm him, like a flashback from her past with the numerous fights in the schoolyard, she instinctively projected herself without caring about the danger.

But the damage was already done; Imani had suffered knife wounds in her abdomen. The adrenaline kept her awake for a while, but at the sight of her own blood on her hands, she plunged into the darkness of a coma. Deep down, all she hoped for was that her friend was okay. She had seen him being attacked, and that's why she intervened immediately.

After 3 months of inactivity, Imani woke up difficultly in the hospital in Milan. She thought she had woken up in her foster home given the commotion around her, and yet, it was actually her group of friends who were there to support her and who only hoped for one thing: that she would pull through. How surprised and relieved she was when she looked into her eyes and saw her friend in good health, shedding tears.

The doctors had warned them that she shouldn't be long in waking up from her induced coma; everyone came to her bedside when they heard the news.

This powerful feeling overwhelmed her; she cried and cried for weeks. She didn't think she could feel so much relief and joy, the joy of being alive and realizing her purpose. She would have loved to manage, but above all, she wanted to serve the people she loves!

Heroine

6 years later, after a long and painful rehabilitation and training to become a police officer, she started her service in the security of the city of Napoli in 2098, at the age of 27. She had already worked for other Italian cities and occasionally in Spain in 2096.

Through willpower and hard work, she rose in rank and became the Chief Security Officer for the districts of Via Veneto and Mare Solar in 2103. Responsible for the safety of the residents and the proper maintenance of order, Imani could be strict and authoritative to ensure the laws and obligations of every citizen were respected. The deep scar on her chest constantly reminded her of her convictions and her desire to do more for others.

Her charisma and natural demeanor were recognized by all, and many children from Via Veneto saw her as a big sister figure. She knew that by presenting a positive image of her profession and role, the Via Veneto neighborhood would become less run-down and more secure in the future.

That was her goal: to create a climate of calm and safety, just as she had always done in her foster home. In 2107, she helped Sofia trace her missing husband and allowed her to learn more about Federico. Imani didn't particularly like the latter, and her intuition told her to be wary.

Her good heart would never accuse her, but perhaps she could have avoided major twists if the latter were not so compassionate.
